In the Gospel, John the Baptist preaches repentance in anticipation of the coming of Christ: ‘he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.’John calls the people to leave their sinful lives and turn towards God,baptizing them with water. He tells of the need to bear fruit: real faith thatshows in our actions.
As Pilgrims of Hope in this Jubilee year, we renew our commitment to sharing God’s compassion and care for all. We strive for peace and justice in this world by reflecting on our own behaviour. We are reminded that we cannot do this on our own but must constantly seek the Lord’s loving guidance and strength.
